Eligibility and terms

Staff at St. Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne are eligible to register to borrow from the Carl de Gruchy Library. Staff from affiliated research institutions are also eligible to register to borrow.

Students on placement at the hospital are also eligible to register to borrow, providing they are onsite for a minimum of four weeks from the time of borrowing.

Registration

Register to become a borrower of print items by filling out the registration form and sending to library.svhmlibrary@svha.org.au or print it and hand it to a Librarian at the Library's counter. Proof of staff or student status is required.

Loans, Renewals, Returns & Fines

Loans
Open a borrower account to take out print books. Most books have a four week lending period with two renewals. Books marked "2 week loan" cannot be renewed. Loans are processed at the library counter.

Renew book loans before they becomes overdue by:

 

Returns
Return chutes are located inside the Library and externally in the passage between the Clinical Sciences Building and the Clinical School. If using the external chute please make sure all your returns are pushed as far as possible in the chute.
 

Fines
Overdue fines accrue at $1 per item per day. If fines reach $10 borrowing privileges will be withdrawn until outstanding fines are reduced to $5 or less. Borrowers who do not return a loan more than 30 days past the loan's due date will be invoiced the replacement cost of the item plus an administration fee. Borrowers with overdue items are strongly encouraged to contact the Library.
